How we designed the Search & Filter feature

We're building Spaceduck to be the world's best thinking and research tool. One key feature is an exceptional repository where you can store all your valuable knowledge, research pieces, images, videos, interviews, meetings, and any other relevant materials. Our goal is to ensure that anything you collected months or years ago reveals itself just when you need it.

Simplified Organization

Traditional methods of organizing repositories with complex folder structures (e.g., Research -> Customer Research -> Jane Doe -> Studies -> PDF Files -> [Insert PDF Name]) are outdated. While such structures might seem productive initially, they become unmaintainable and disconnected over time.

Unified Repository

With Spaceduck, everything goes into one private repository we call "Browse." Items are tagged and embedded within your workspace based on their media type. This eliminates the need for traditional organization methods. Our "Search & Filters" feature is designed to work intuitively, just like your mind does. You shouldn't have to remember folder names; simply think about the item you want to access and find it.

Intelligent Tagging and Embedding

We treat each media type uniquely to extract relevant aspects that your mind might associate with them. For instance:

By tagging and embedding media accordingly, you can search for items based on characteristics like elements within an image, colors in a video, sentences in a PDF, or even a semantic description of what you're looking for.

Advanced Search and Filters

If natural language search doesn't return the desired results, simply press '/' in the search bar to filter by title, date of upload, tag, media type, and more. With these functionalities at your fingertips, your workflow becomes seamless. Capture what you want to remember and move on to your next task. Spaceduck automatically titles, tags, and embeds your content for easy retrieval.

Manual Customization

You can also manually add notes, descriptions, titles, and tags for further organization. For example, if you're creating a mood board for a project, simply add a tag with the project's name to the media, such as "project xyz." Later, search for that tag in the search bar.
